WILLIAM HYDE SIGNED PLATE ETCHING RARE VINTAGES William Henry Hyde (1856-1943) was a painter of portraits and landscapes as well as being a popular illustrator for such magazines as Century, Harper's and Scribner's. He studied painting in Paris with Gustave Boulanger and Jules-Joseph Lefebvre at the Academie Julian.
He was a member of the Society of American Artists, a group founded in opposition to the more conservative National Academy of Design, although he became an Associate member of the Academy in 1900
